Cheerleading

Letter to Parents

Please take a moment and read through this information to make sure you and your daughter are up for the commitment

The season starts the first Monday in August. Your daughter is expected to be at practice Monday – Thursday during the month of August from 5:45pm – 8:15pm. The squads start to put their routines together the very first week of practice and if your child is absent they may lose out on a position that was perfect for her, such as being part of a stunt group or tumbler.

Cheering at football games is also a big part of our season, your daughter is expected to be at all her squad’s games, which usually are on Sundays anytime from 9am until 3pm, the schedule is put out at the end of August. Games begin Labor Day Weekend.
Once school begins the girls will move indoors to practice, Mascots and Mighty Mites – 2 nights a week, Jr. Pee Wees, Pee Wees and Jr Midgets – 3 nights a week.

All of our squads attend a local tournament (early October). After this tournament Mascots and Mighty Mites will no longer have practices 2 nights a week, but they still need to be cheering at their football games.

The other 3 squads are at a competitive level. Based on the scores received at the local tournament, each squad may (and typically do) qualify to compete in the State Qualifier (mid October). Each cheerleader is expected to attend all practices, games, including playoff games during this time.
Based on the scores received at the State Qualifiers, the respective squads would then travel to the Regional Qualifier (mid November) to determine who will compete at Nationals (early December). Once again, all 3 squads typically make it to the Regional Qualifiers.Again, each cheerleader is expected to attend all practices and playoff games.

The tournaments do have additional costs associated with them. For our 3 competitive squads you will need to plan on spending money on tickets (not for your cheerleader) and hotel, if an overnight is required. Below were the cost for tickets and hotels for 2010 Season:

  • Local (Gates-Chili) – Ticket $10
  • State (Albany) – Ticket $20
  • Regional (Trenton, New Jersey) - Hotel $89 plus tax, Ticket $30, meals
  • National (Orlando, FL) – airfare, hotel, ticket, meals - TBA

There will be opportunities to fundraise for these expenses. We have a Car Wash, Pancake Breakfast and Can Drive, which are great team building activities for the girls, your daughter is expected to participate. We are always looking at other fundraising opportunities, so please let us know if you have an idea to share.

We need many volunteers to have a successful season. Every family is expected to volunteer their time throughout the season, including concession stand duty. We need every family to donate about 2-3 hours of their time throughout the season. We would like to thank you in advance for volunteering you time!!   We know this is a huge commitment not only for the girls, but also the families. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you for being a part of Pop Warner!!
