Flag Red

Week 5 Recap

Week 5’s game against Chili proved a true test of the football warrior in the Flag Red team. While we missed Nicholas #23 due to illness, the balance of the team showed dedication that exceeded everyone’s expectations. With it so hard to see, we’re giving a big Fairport cheer to all our players for playing hard in the wind, and cold rain, and puddles:

·         Dylan #2

·         Blake #5

·         Ryan #10 (Game MVP. Mr. Smiles-A-Lot!!!)

·         Cole #12

·         Shakil #20

·         Dominic #30

·         JJ #40

·         Collin #44

·         Jack #55

·         Connor #80

The game wrapped up after a long, tiring 2 halves in a tie score: 4 to 4. Hope you feel better Nicholas!

Parents, we hope their clothes and sneakers are dried out in time for this Sunday’s game. The forecast is 78 degrees and sunny.

- Annette Abell

Week 4 Recap

Saturday was our second home game with Fairport in red, white and blue played against Greece Chargers in black and white.

Greece made the first touchdown where #2 Dylan, #12 Cole, #80 Connor made nice defensive runs. Our offense responded with #55 Jack coming just shy of a touchdown. Back on the defense #20 Shakil, #5 Blake, #40 JJ started the new defensive line with #80 Connor, #44 Collin, #10 Ryan, and #12. Dillon made our first touchdown!!!  Fairport defense held Greece back thanks to #23 Nicolas' intensive lineman talents. Then #80 did a great job of breaking away and going long so he could intercept the QB and wipe the flag down.

When asked what was the game's most notable play Mark Abell said every play was big. Very impressive game boys!  Go little Raiders!!! Huge thank you to 1st time parent volunteer, Shakela King, and the repeat volunteer John Hughes.

Week 3 Recap

Sunday's weather was perfect for football and the McAvoy field's turf made it extra sweet. #2 Dylan made our first touchdown. Not to be outdone by the raider trio  #80 Connor +# 10 Ryan who tag teamed the Iron QB from second touchdown but fell back as #30 Dominic poured on the gas and pulled Iron's flag just before he crossed the goal line. #55 Jack made a nice run during the first half. #5. Blake was a hawk running after the QB to get the flag in the next play. #40 JJ consistently blocked as our defense tried to block Iron.

With the game 28-14, it looks like our players do better running on the outside. #23 Nicolas showed awesome blocking yet again to hold the Iron from advancing. #40  started as our QB at the start of the second half, while his offensive line tried to break through the iron wall.

Game highlight was when Coach Tyler had to tell the raiders not to run into the cheerleaders on a play. Who knew that had to be explained! Then #12 Cole made an extra sweet touchdown!

Game 2 Recap

Flag Red boys stepped up their game in their second game, now realizing what it means to play in front of a crowd and to implement all that they’ve been learning during practice.

Reg Flag won the coin toss and had #30 Dominic DeLaus start as our quarterback with #12 Cole Villareale, #5 Blake Abell, #2 Dylan Norton, #55 Jack Bushnell, #23 Nicholas Hughes, #44 Collin Reese, and #80 Connor Kiel round out our offensive line. Immediately following our first play where #30 had a shoe malfunction, #10 Ryan Rodeman popped in the game for a quick play before #30 could return. Other memorable moments include defensive line #55, #5, #30, #40 JJ Caton, #80, #20 Shakil McDonald, #12 and #10 working together as a defensive line when Southwest made the first touchdown of the game. In response our #2 player made our first touchdown with an awesome breakaway. Not to be outdone, #55 made a valiant run after Southwest QB with what must be jet-fueled sneakers. All players bucked up for what was a tough game that ended with #20 making a strongman’s defensive hold against Southwest. While the other team won those of us on the sidelines can see how the players are beginning to form into a team to be feared! Second only, that is, to the swarms of bees that attended.

Special thank you to all of our coaches for working with the boys and keeping their spirits up during the game.
